Joint Air Fuel Ratio and Torque Regulation using Secondary Cylinder Air Flow Actuators

چکیده
Actuation schemes exist that permit the joint manage ment of air and fuel ow into the cylinders of a spark ignition engine With the exception of drive by wire systems to date the transient control aspects of these schemes collectively refered to here as secondary cylin der air ow actuators has not received any attention from the control community This paper takes a rst step in the analysis of the simultaneous dynamic control of air fuel ratio and torque response using secondary actuators placed before the intake ports of the cylin ders when used in combination with standard fuel in jectors and primary throttle regulated by the driver The emphasis is on basic issues of designing a feedfor ward scheme to enhance actuator authority for feedback control and the fundamental multi variable nature of the feedback problem Enhanced transient air to fuel ratio performance improvement is shown to be possible without sacri cing engine torque response with respect to a conventional engine In addition this is achieved with overall higher manifold pressure o ering the pos sibility of reduced pumping losses in the engine depend ing on the actual actuation scheme employed

Air-Fuel Ratio Control of a Lean Burn SI Engine Using Fuzzy Self Tuning Method
Reducing the exhaust emissions of an spark ignition engine by means of engine modifications requires consideration of the effects of these modifications on the variations of crankshaft torque and the engine roughness respectively. Only if the roughness does not exceed a certain level the vehicle do not begin to surge. This paper presents a method for controlling the air-fuel ratio for a lean bu...
متن کاملEffects of Air Fuel Ratio and Injection Timing on Performance for Four-Cylinder Direct Injection Hydrogen Fueled Engine
In this study, the influence air fuel ratio and injection timing on the engine performance of 4-cylinder direct injection hydrogen fueled engine was investigated. The effect of air fuel ratio (AFR) and engine speed on optimum injection timing is presented. The 4-cylinder direct injection hydrogen engine model was developed utilizing the GTPower commercial software. This model employed one dimen...
متن کاملTolerant Ethanol Estimation in Flex-fuel Vehicles during Maf Sensor Drifts
Flexible fuel vehicles (FFVs) can operate on a blend of ethanol and gasoline in any volumetric concentration of up to 85% ethanol (93% in Brazil). Existing FFVs rely on ethanol sensor installed in the vehicle fueling system, or on the ethanoldependent air-to-fuel ratio (AFR) estimated via an exhaust gas oxygen (EGO) or λ sensor. The EGO-based ethanol detection is desirable from cost and mainten...

Air path control of a spark ignition engine without an EGR loop, equipped with variable-valve-timing (VVT) actuators, is addressed in this paper. VVT devices are used to produce internal exhaust gas recirculation, providing beneficial effects in terms of fuel consumption and pollutant emissions reduction. However, VVT actuators affect the fresh air charge in the cylinders. This has an impact on...
